I’ll preface this by saying I’m in the UK I just wasn’t sure if there was a UK specific page for this? But regardless of that I’m really just looking for other opinions.
My 6month old son has what appears to be ringworm on his cheek. We had this checked at the pharmacy and purchased an over the counter anti fungal cream with the main ingredient being Clotrimazole.
We started to apply this but it seemed to make the area worse. The skin started to scab and peel and the area looked quite painful. In addition to this he developed a rash on his cheek. His temperature is normal and he shows no signs of being irritable or lethargic. He is his normal happy self.
Back to the pharmacy and they suggested that we stop using the cream and let the ringworm run its course while keeping the area clean and dry. Now we were under the impression that ringworm would rarely go away by itself so contacted the Dr this morning.
We sent pictures and they then called us later in the day. This was a very quick call. No mention was made of ringworm or what seemed to be a reaction to the cream, however they went on to suggest it was either Impetigo or a Staph Scalded Skin infection. They then prescribed an anti biotic with a rather full on dosage.
Would either of these things start out looking like ringworm? Our thoughts are he has had a reaction to the cream?
Thanks
