Charley’s Evolution
Just figured I’d post a general observation I’ve noticed about Charley. I discovered him in 2018 when I first heard In the Night, and watching his evolution as an artist has been fascinating.
I love A Stolen Jewel, but if you look at the songwriting on some of the originals on that record vs. his songwriting now with tunes like “Solitary Road” or “Killers of the Flower Moon” the difference is night and day.
His early records are certainly charming, in fact I think In The Night remains my personal favorite, however his songwriting evolution is nothing short of fantastic. The Man From Waco was not only at the time his best record musically, but it was conceptually great as well.
Now with this new record seemingly being apart of a 3-part trilogy, there’s no doubt that there will be some conceptual overlap in each entry, and I’m just excited to see what grand story Charley will tell this time.
