Married Christians how do you perceive being “one flesh?”
Scripture says in multiple places that in a marriage the two become one flesh. Do you perceive that as a mystical spiritual melding of souls or is it more of a practical description of life together?
I personally think that it simply means that a new family is formed. Adam said “she is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” Laban also called his relative Jacob “bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” I see “one flesh” as a similar idiom.
I’m not married and haven’t ever been in a serious relationship, so I’m curious what understanding resonates with the married Christians.
