Hyundai Getz uphill start issue?
Hello everybody!
I am a new driver and my first car is the ol' Getz 2006 1.1.
I took my driving lessons and in a much more modern and stronger car (BMW X2 2022) and I learned to drive it excellently. I have learned how to measure the parking in that car (which I have issues with in my Getz, it's plenty shorter and I struggle to calculate from which point to park in a parking space and it takes a lot of maneuvering and readjusting) and it has all the fancy features, such as hill assist, which brings me to my problem.
I was waiting for a green light on an incline, holding onto the brake and the clutch whilst in first gear, ready to start. However, the car started sliding backwards and the driver behind me was honking (rightfully so) so I panicked and jumped onto the accelerator pedal as hard as it goes, just to move the freaking car forwards on that incline. You can imagine my fear when I smelled the disc burning (it didn't actually burn, but it felt like that). I panicked and now I avoid inclines at all costs, especially if I have to start on an incline (eg. waiting on a red light) without previous momentum built up.
It's otherwise a nice little car, recently undergone a major service and had everything replaced and made sure that it's perfectly safe to drive, a car that I'm so thankful to have as my first car that I can experience "bumps on the road" with.
I have been driving the Getz for less than a week and I understand it takes some time to get used to, but it definitely has a weak engine and I'm afraid I'll use it up quickly since it requires maximum acceleration to headstart uphill. Does anyone have similar experience or any advice? Thank you!
