Mulligatawny soup?

Some places I go to have meat in Mulligatawny soup, and it's clearer base and almost a stew.

Other places it is creamy, pureed, and seems more lentil based. Completely different than the meat stew kind.

But they're both called Mulligatawny soup.

I prefer the creamy lentil kind, but I'm wondering if it's called something else.

Any details anyone can provide would help.
