New York Auto Insurance
Hey all,
My insurance is nuts because I had two cars stolen within days as well as my wife was in a not at fault rear end accident. I've accepted why my insurance is high but that hasn't stopped me googling. I stumbled upon a new york state web page where a few bullet points I found interesting:
However, surcharges are specifically not permitted if, for example
your vehicle was struck in the rear, without a moving violation conviction against you;
claims are made under comprehensive or towing coverages. In general, no policy can be surcharged to a level where the premium exceeds more than three times the base premium for the highest rated vehicle covered by that policy (without the surcharge). Please note that surcharges only apply to the premiums for liability, No-Fault, and collision coverages.
Now this is just what got me thinking. My progressive renewal has the following as events considered:
1) comprehensive greater then $1000 2) comprehensive greater then $1000 3) not at fault accident
Doesn't what progressive "considered" completely contradict what the ny.gov website state?
Again up until I was bored half hour ago I've just accepted my poor luck reflects in my insurance rate, but now after reading ny.gov this had me curious and was a wondering what anyone else has to think.
