Pfeil tool blunt already?!

I bought a Pfeil L12/1 recently, along with the Power Grip five piece set.

Since receiving the Pfeil tool, I have used it on one small design where I used traditional grey lino, albeit as the main tool.

I started working on another design using rubber lino — I got this Lino before I had experimented more and didn’t realise how much I don’t like it! It seems like the Pfeil tool is already quite blunt as although the Power Grip tools have some of the same issues on the rubber lino, the Pfeil sticks and doesn’t cut as cleanly.

I know you need to sharpen or hone lino tools regularly to maintain them — I just didn’t think it’d be an issue after one small design, and I still need to research how to use a slip strop so I don’t damage the tools.

Looking for advice: is this a common thing others have noticed with Pfeil tools? Could it be my technique rather than a problem with the tool? Do small/fine tools just not do well on rubber Lino? TIA.
