Is “lol”’meant to shut your friend up / end a conversation?

I sent my best friend / secret love of my life a text about dolphins and he said “lmao.” Then I sent him a picture of my cat, whom I just bathed. I remarked I only got scratched once! And he said “lol.” Does that imply he doesn’t wanna talk? I’m probably a tremendously stupid individual for even asking this… ugh 😑
