Apparently never had a tumor all along?
I’m a 21 year old female who went to an endocrinologist last summer looking for answers. I was suffering from very irregular, heavy, painful periods. I also was having weight changes, joint pain, breast pain, and painful headaches that often affected my vision. She sends me to have some tests done.
I had a series of blood tests that came out with fluctuating prolactin and consistently high IGF. I get a MRI for my pituitary gland. It comes back with “findings suggestive of a small pituitary micro-adenoma”. I get sent for a growth hormone suppression test. Apparently this came back with normal results.
I just had my first visit back with the endocrinologist after being sent for all these tests. She tells me that the growth hormone suppression test confirms that I have no pituitary gland problem. She then tells me that after reviewing my blood test results, they are actually within normal limits after considering my age. She also says that whoever read my MRI must’ve been “over-excited” because there is actually no clear tumor. And since I’ve been put on birth control in the meantime to regulate my periods, I’m basically free to move on with my life. She suggested to see a neurologist or rheumatologist if I’m worried about my other symptoms.
I’m feeling very confused and frustrated. I went through non-stop testing for weeks and spent a whole lot of money to be told that it was all just a mistake? Things were finally starting to make sense and I thought there was a solution in sight for these symptoms that have been bothering me for years.
