Mycoplasma and URIs: What worked for you ?

My boy Georgie (2 year old) is struggling this winter with chronic upper respiratory infections. He’s been on baytril since October and has been on a higher dose of it for the past 3 weeks. He’s still so congested. He also gets doxycycline and occasional meloxicam as needed for inflammation. I myself am a veterinary nurse who takes him to see the vet whether my wallet can take it or not. My vet doesn’t seem to really offer many options for URIs besides baytril + doxy.

In your experience, what helped? Please tell me if children’s pseudoephedrine helped or a different antibiotic. Steam therapy? More frequent cage cleanings? I have radiators and live in a shitty old apartment with carpeting and mold. Heads up: He’s a lone boy right now since his cagemate passed a month ago. After much consideration I decided it was in his best interest and mine to not get a new rat. He’s not great with new rats he doesn’t know. He seems happy on his own and spends a lot of time with me when i’m home from work. He’s got an entire critter nation to himself. Please believe me when I say that he’s content.
