Made my mark! Pass
Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to say a massive THANK YOU to this community. I’m now 2-0 on these types of exams—the SIE and now the Series 66! I know I’m going out of order, but oh well…I found it easier to take the two that don’t require sponsorship first before tackling the granddaddy of them all. I passed the Series 66 yesterday, and I couldn’t have done it without the advice, resources, and encouragement I found here. So, I wanted to give back by sharing some of how I prepared and what I saw on my draw.
Study Materials: I bought the Kaplan LEM and QBank. I read the LEM cover to cover and read through the laws/regs chapters at least twice. I spent a lot of time with Kaplan’s QBank-finishing about 85% of the questions provided with an average score of 82%. I bought Brian Lee’s course which helped me so much. Definitely worth the investment! Finally, The Geek and The Guru Series 66 Podcast was played on repeat nonstop-definitely helped me stay focused and motivated me throughout the process.
Debrief: I felt my draw was strange. I got a lot more analytical questions than I was expecting, and I was asked at least 3 questions about price-to-book concepts. Definitely threw me off a bit. The first 30 or so questions I flew through and then the questions literally got longer in length and the language got real muddled. The length/difficulty of questions eased up around question 80 and from about question 95 on became basic point-and-shoot recognition questions. Here are some question topics I saw: PV, NPV, IRR, Acid-Test Ratio vs CR, QDRO, Estate Taxes, Coverdell, UGMAs specifically, 3 questions contrasting TIC vs JTWROS, Futures, a lot of questions pertaining to Agents, EAFE Index, and I’ll finish with saying, know your balance sheets!
Practice Exams: I took 6 Kaplan practice exams and reviewed every question, right or wrong. My simulated exam scores were 73, 71, 81, 73, 85, 80. I bought Brian Lee’s Practice Exam but never got around to it. Two of the simulated exams were Dean Tinney’s Shared Screen-Ride Along with Pause and Play. Those were game changers for me.
Recognition: Special shoutout to Dean Tinney, Brian Lee, and Ken Finnen. Brian’s “premium vodka” has never tasted so good! iykyk😊
The exam was tough! I felt like I had a really challenging draw, but like Dean always says, you’ve got to be prepared enough to handle any draw thrown your way. I didn’t panic but instead trusted the prep and used the testing tips I’ve learned along the way to carry me through some pretty tough questions.
Thanks again! This community is amazing, and I’m so grateful for the support. On to my next goal: getting sponsored and passing the Series 7!
