Is not making enough money a valid reason to tell an employer why you’re looking for a new job?
I currently work as an expediter at a cafe in a museum. I am not happy there. I am not making enough to support myself on my own and management itself I don’t trust since they have favorites and gossip. It’s also a daytime job and I go to college full time as well and cannot work certain days so I don’t overwhelm myself. This job was my last resort when I quit my call center job a couple months ago and not too many restaurants were hiring at the time. I knew the general manager from working with her at a restaurant and she hired me. I miss serving and making my own money. We operate on a tip pooling system since it is a cafe and not an actual restaurant. A lot of people don’t tip since we’re not an actual sit down restaurant.
The restaurant itself is so unorganized, the environment is draining to a point where I dread going to work, too much drama and gossip between employees which I stay out of. I got scheduled only 3 days this week and with business being slow I cannot even afford to live on my own. I do uber eats on the side to supplement my income.
I have about two years serving experience and many places are hiring around my area since it is season. If an employer were to ask me why I want to leave is it ok to say that I’m not making enough where I’m at? I don’t want to be negative about my employer to someone else but I am not happy at my current job and situation and need to change this situation ASAP. It’s gotten to a point where I feel it’s affecting others around me and I hate that I feel drained.
