Action Release Question from a Newbie
Hey, folks!
I recently inherited a Winchester Model 12 from around 1954. I’m a total newbie when it comes to firearms, so I did some Googling but couldn’t find an answer that quite fits my issue.
It seems like something might be off with the action release. After firing, the pump sometimes unlocks and moves as expected, but other times it stays locked. Through some simple tests, I’ve noticed that the pump tends to move more freely when the shotgun is pointed upward—almost as if gravity is helping.
Additionally, the action release button behind the trigger feels quite firm and difficult to press at times. I’m not sure if that’s normal for a Model 12 or if something needs attention.
Any guidance from you experts would be greatly appreciated! I’d love to take it to the range next weekend, but I want to make sure everything is functioning properly first.
Thanks in advance!
