Overwhelmed Newb

I'm sure this topic has come up repeatedly. So my apologies for yet another post about it.

I'm brand new to 40k with extremely little knowledge. I've watched some videos on lore and listened to a few podcasts. So I've got a little base knowledge.

That being said, I want to start building a Space Wolves army. I was going to go Tyrannid (FOR THE SWARM) but something about badass space vikings riding wolves into combat sounds more like home to me.

For the 2 part newb question:

Where the hell do I start when it comes to the lore? I love that 40k has such an expansive lore but it's daunting trying to figure out where to start. I'd like to get a better understanding/knowledge of Space Wolves if that is the army I'm building.

Where do I start off with my army? I've read that the combat patrol sucks. So I'm not sure where to start if not there.
