Help! Cracked Back Liftgate Interior Panel

Luckily no one was hurt but here’s a fun one. I was driving my wife and kids back from kids’ swim practice when I hit a patch of black ice. Immediately the entire car locked up and I went into a skid. Crazy, because I didnt even hit the brakes and I wasn’t going more than 25 or so.

We did a complete 270 and ended up in the other direction. Luckily no one was driving in either direction so we avoided a collision. Car didn’t go off the road.

However I was carrying a 50lb bucket of rock salt in the trunk that I was going to drop off at a family member’s house. Heard a huge bang as that fell over and thought it spilled rock salt everywhere. It didn’t, but a few days later I saw that the impact cracked my back lift gate interior panel.

Insurance is saying because it’s internal damage a claim won’t likely pay out. My deductible is $500 anyway. But I’m looking at having to replace the entire panel, no? This is gonna be pretty expensive.

Any ideas?
