What are the consequences for lying about a family death to Uni ?

So my mum's friend daughter was in her 3rd year and instead of doing an assignment, she took a holiday for 3 weeks. After coming back she lied that her father passed away, thats why she did not complete the assignment.

She did it because she didn't like the assignment, and since she is getting student finance, wanted to redo the 3rd year from September, for the extra money.

Student advisors told her that she doesnt have to give any proof of death since shes from another country, and that she can start at the Start of the school year.

Are there any consequences she could face if she is found out?
