is it just perception... or are Zoomers actually a lot more immature than we were at 18-24?

I don't know how to really describe the issue and I don't want to come off as a jerkoff but it actually seems like a lot of these people who are young adults (and should be in young adulthood) are still mentally kids and have a lot of growing up to do.

  1. The self-infantilization and helplessness - I've seen people who are in their early 20's with kids call themselves "teen moms". I've also heard people up to 24ish years old refer to themselves as "kids". I've seen 18-20 year olds call themselves "minors". Am I hallucinating or did we (I am 30) want to be seen as adults and competent the second we hit 18? I remember feeling so free the day I graduated highschool. Like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders and I was excited. Now it's like "I don't want to be an adult".

  2. Mocking of people who are 25 years old or older. You see so many online people saying "unc" or calling others "old" for not even being old at all. You see people saying "imagine being (age) and doing (x)". Like a way of age shaming people. Which is weird because the people who call us old seem to get older too... And they still make fun of us for being older.

  3. The childish attention seeking behaviors. Yes this could be said for any age group on the internet but let's be honest with ourselves for a minute. MOST of the whole "thirst trap", "I'm so attractive look at me!", "OnlyFans", TikTok dances, (just very immature attention seeking behaviors) are coming from this age group of people. I remember behaving like this as a child. I grew out of it in like the 6th grade. What gives?

  4. Way more risk-averse. They aren't socializing, doing drugs, having sex, drinking. Some could say this is positive... but they also aren't doing things like getting drivers licenses, looking for jobs at an earlier age, and learning self-reliance which is a skill needed to be an adult.

  5. Bad emotional regulation. There's a victim mentality and also very much an "us vs them" mentality very prevalent in this crowd. I don't understand it because it reinforces black and white thinking which is not how adults act.
