[Rant] FEMA has made me wait 3+ months for assistance all because they wanted a new picture of my ID

I have been waiting for over 3 months for the 750 from FEMA. I've spent hours calling, dozens of times, spoken to dozens of different agents, gone in person to the DRC. I've appealed. Provided more documentation than they could ever want - lease, report from Duke, statement from landlord, insurance declarations and settlement. Today was the 90th day after my appeal was initiated with no update so I called and the reason given? They wanted a new picture of my Driver's License. Was this ever relayed to me once over the past 3 months? Nope.

I don't agree with people claiming FEMA has done nothing for us and the federal government abandoned us with Helene as that's just obviously false, but I feel like it's safe to say FEMA and the feds could have done a lot more and a lot earlier. I've been keeping up with the California wildfires and what keeps crossing my mind is that the nightmare for them won't end with evacuation. It'll be months and months of reliving everything through insurance BS and bureaucratic red tape.
