Which method is better for evaluating limits?

My teacher says learning these expansions will save time for me in the test, but I have a strong grasp over the other methods including the l^Hopital's Rule. I can use other methods like trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential limits too instead of learning them right? Do I really need to learn them to have a grasp over limits?
