First time going to Cancun, staying at the Westin Lagunamar with family (kids aged 3 and 8). Looking for any tips and advice.

I know there is so much out there, I've been google searching and reading a ton of stuff on TA and here. But I thought I'd put this post up in case there is something specific I missed in the noise.

This is our first time in Cancun, or in Mexico at all. We are travelling mid-August and staying at the Westin Lagunamar. We've stayed in AI in other places and decided not to this time; partly because of the price difference and we don't eat or drink nearly that much to make it worthwhile.

We weren't planning on doing any excursions, we are only there for a week and thought we just want to relax and not run around. But maybe we could do one thing at least.

Any advice, tips, things to avoid, anything, would be immensely appreciated!
