How do you learn real endgames?

I don't get it. Every source for endgames just teaches a couple of theoretical situations that aren't actually useful. Meanwhile, I'm just losing literally every single endgame I get because I just can't figure them out. Even if I objectively have a better position, if it's an endgame, I'm going to lose, 100% of the time, and I don't get it.
