Dayton's very small music scene and the potential for growth here
Hello! I am not from Dayton but I've been driving down from Columbus almost every weekend to watch my friend's bands play shows at local bars. One things I've noticed and that's been pointed out to me by the people in said bands is that there is not really a "scene" here anymore despite maybe a handful of really really good younger up-and-coming bands. You see maybe 10-20 younger people in the audiences at these shows. The most accepted theory is that there are not any central diy house venues for a scene to build upon and potential audiences are unaware of the shows already happening. As someone not from Dayton and is learning what the nightlife and city is like, I'd love to figure out ways to grow the scene but am unsure how to go about that. The bands that are here feel they need to go to the surrounding cities to see any chance of success which is a shame because the bands here are incredible and the city has the potential to grow a very healthy music scene.
What is preventing the scene from growing besides the stuff listed? What can be done to realize the scenes potential for growth?
