[spoiler] luzzu/gatta bug in ffx remaster?

In all my playthroughs I always had gazzu surviving the operation mi'hen and luzzu dying, this time I carefully selected the option to join the frontlines upon speaking to him. Even with further checks on the web, I made sure I was going for the option where he would actually die leaving luzzu alive.

Gatta survived. So at this point, unless im missing something, I say it's glitched in a way where gatta just can't die regardless of what you select, can you confirm?
