My internship experience
Hey guys, congratulations to all of you who cleared fmge and those who didn't hang on.
I recently completed my internship in top most Government medical College of my state & would like to tell my experience here.
internal medicine...each ward has around 40 patients & 2 interns, work starts at 9:00 we should check bp for all patients, then give iv/im medicines , then pg's will give you a list of investigations which you should send by taking blood sample. Foleys and ryles for cva patients. 36 hr's duties are most hectic I had less time to learn anything in medicine
Surgery... All grunt work like taking patient to usg scan on my bike and going to lab to bring reports and ct scan videos etc... On OT day we can attend surgery but no hands on because even pg's aren't getting to operate these days. I have learnt suturing in my posting
Obg... Most hectic, always emergencies, toxic work here mostly involves suture removal, dressing, iv /im medicines, retrograde bladder filling, blood transfusion, you get chance to perform manual delivery
Paeds...most of the work involves dose calculation for iv medicine according to weight takes lot of time
Psychiatry, DVL, Opthal, Ent.... Same like taking blood samples, getting reports from lab and Attending OT for surgery
Casualty.. only posting where you are actual doctor, you should be very fast and alert. Identify very serious patients first and take history, complaint then present the patient to PG he will tell what to do.
Most satisfying posting is also causality.... a unconscious patient came to casualty, his attender said that he is chronic alcoholic , i told nurse to give thiamine in NS, the patient recovered in 30 minutes. Thus don't neglect casualty posting
Ortho... Toxic, mostly blood transfusions, sampling, suturing etc..
Community medicine..we will get posting in PHC and CHC where u will get to examine and prescribe Drugs for patients.
Yes internship involves lot of grunt work & be prepared.
