Shaft flex Vs. Weight

Here's my pickle. I currently game a 30 year old set of Titleist DCI black irons. I'm a new golfer, 4 years in. 38 years old. I'm new to breaking 100 on the course. At this point i'm hitting my irons fairly well with a reasonably solid and repeatable swing. I want to upgrade these old clubs to a new set of Takomo 101 irons.

I don't want a fitting yet.

My current DCI iron shafts are Titleist Tri Spec Stiff flex shafts from the 1990's. They are 118 grams. The clubs are traditional lofts which are higher lofted than equivalent Takomo clubs. 7 iron loft on my DCIs is 36 degrees for instance, compared to 30 degrees on the Takomos. It's a club length difference.

Takomo offers a Regular flex KBS Tour shaft at 120g (close to current weight but lighter flex), A KBS Tour Stiff flex at 130g, (same flex but quite a bit heavier) and a KBS C-taper lite Stiff flex at 118.5g. (Same weight and flex, but advertises a high ball flight, which I'm already getting with higher lofted clubs).

What should I do here? I'm looking for more distance and forgiveness, but I want to hold a green.

Current carry with traditional lofted 7 iron is 150-160 yds on a solid strike. Tempo is fairly smooth. I don't muscle it unless I'm having fun.

I appreciate that the correct answer is to get a fitting, but I'm not there yet. Looking for anecdotes and conversation right now.
