Yet Another Zombie Lit Post

I know, I know, search function and all that--believe me, I tried it! I'm having a...I don't know if unique is the right word but problem sure is. I've taken on a reading challenge for different subgenres in horror and I'm having a difficult time filling the zombies prompt! I have a general blase attitude towards zombie stuff in general if just because it feels often too action-y. I want zombies that scare the living daylights out of me. I don't particularly want to follow a militaristic protagonist (or cop, or night guard, or etcetc you get the idea.) The only zombie novel I've ever really liked was Feed by Mira Grant but that's not really what I'm looking for at the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or perhaps a bend of the prompt where yeah it's technically zombies but maybe a little to the left?
