Updated Kansas City Unemployment Figures | released July 29, 2020
Official unemployment figures for the Kansas City economy were updated today. Numbers for May have been finalized and preliminary figures for June have now been made available.
May
The unemployment rate fell to 10.8% in May. 6,600 positions were added, with only 1,500 workers entering the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 22,100. The only individual sector with significant employment changes was Leisure and Hospitality which added 11,200 positions.
June (preliminary)
The unemployment rate fell to 7.8% in June. 45,700 positions were added, with only 12,500 workers entering the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 41,800. Labor categories with significant additions include Manufacturing adding 6,100 positions, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities adding 7,700 positions, and Leisure and Hospitality adding 19,000 positions.
