Train to Busan - 2016 - Review and Discussion
So last night my wife and I watched Train to Busan. Its a new zombie movie and the first live action movie for the writer-director Yeon Sang-Ho. His animated movies are pretty well-recieved (The King of Pigs, The Fake, Seoul Station) but I've never seen them. I think I'll have to track them down after watching this, though.
If you like zombie movies, I think you'll be pleased by this. The social commentary is about as subtle as a brick to the face, but hey, the zombies are awesome. These were more similar to the 28 Days Later/WWZ zombies than the shambling monsters in The Walking Dead. The directing is pretty great as a few scenes are very reminiscent of Sam Raimi, and the action is pretty well done. Not quite as violent as the other corridor fighting seen in another Korean train movie, Snowpiercer, but then again, these guys are civilians for the most part.
I watched the movie without subtitles, and my Korean isn't too great, I had no issues understanding the story. I think the subtlety was left in Seoul on the trip to Busan. Still, I recommend this movie to any zombie fans.
