Prohibited Possessor Work-around - Question

Good afternoon,

Never thought I’d post this on here but here we go.

In 2019 I was charged with several serious crimes. After a short court process I was convicted of ‘Harassment with Physical Contact (No Injury)’

Don’t worry. I know this already sounds bad but it’s one of those juvenile situations and I’d be happy to explain my wrongdoings as well as some of the exaggerated claims.

Anyways. I have been trying my whole life to join. During this incident I was in college. Hoping to go AF afterwards. Moreover, after this. Even though the chargers were amended down, I was told I was a Prohibited Possessor. This defeated me for several years and I gave up all hope.

Recently I’ve been trying to join one of the branches. At this point. I don’t care. I just want to serve my country like all the men in my family before me. Anyhow, I’m working with a NG recruiter. God bless him. He hit a wall today as he was told being a prohibited possessor bars me from joining. At least until it’s expunged. Mind you, I’ve began the process. 4 character references, a well-written statement admitting to rehabilitation, and I’ve grown up. I’m married, working a full-time salary job, I’m baptised, I have a community.

He called me today and said he was told by another recruiter that had an experience with this advised him that if I completed MEPS & my ASVAB and proved I was totally qualified to serve, that he could potentially go to the courthouse and show them that I’m qualified and that this prohibited status is the only thing stopping me from serving my country. He said his recruiter coworker had done this and successfully gotten this man into the Army.

Have you guys ever heard of this? Is all hope lost until I expunge this? He’s given me more hope and I hope I’m not being fooled. Is this real?

Please ask me anything. Thank you for your time.

*** EDIT*** I forgot to mention, yes, this was related to a DV situation. She was my gf. We didn’t live together. I was charged with DV - charges and then they were amended down. I did not harm her. Obviously. But I did enough damage to some of her property that constituted me going to jail. I deserved the punishment. I made awful decisions. The Harassment charges stemmed from a DV situation that made me a Prohibited Possessor.
