The TikTok ban: how will it affect the music industry?
This is assuming the ban actually goes through, which is still up in the air. But if TikTok actually does get banned, what effects do y'all think it will have on the music industry? In the past few years, TikTok has become one of the most defining forces in the music industry by becoming one of the prime ways that people discover new music. A majority of the pop artists that have become popular this decade have done so at least partially through TikTok, and it's arguably changed the music industry as we know it by helping to break up the monoculture and allowing independent artists to thrive. Will people move to other short-form video platforms like Instagram reels, or go back to the olden days of getting discovered on YouTube? Could major record labels start to have more control over the industry again?
