Dark image using this HDMI adapter
So for a while I've used this cheap HDMI adapter I bought from AliExpress, which I use to play my games at 720p or 1080p using OPL and FreeMcBoot, but because I was mainly playing bright looking games like GOW and such, it never really bothered me, until I jumped into horror games which are typically darker, Fatal Frame 2 is literally unplayable as it is so dark.
Now I did notice that by not plugging in the usb cable to the adapter, the image becomes much clearer, while also retaining the resolution I choose, however the sound cuts completely, unless I plug in headphones to the jack on the adapter, but as you can imagine, this is not ideal for me, as I want to enjoy my games while playing on my TV and laying on my bed.
This issue has driven me so crazy for the past few months, I even attempted using an external speaker system with a volume knob which I connected to the adapter using the headphone jack, but that has resulted in a total failure, I won't get into the details of it as it's extremely inconvenient and also requires many more wires and cables, but the point is, I want to know if there is a way I can get this adapter to work normally, meaning a decent bright image with the audio coming out of the TV.
I'm very comfortable with doing any type of tinkering, including soldering etc...
Also one last thing, I did try adjusting the image settings on my TV, but nothing really worked because it seems like the source image itself is dark.
I would highly appreciate any advice of help!
Edit: here are some comparison images I just took:
