Thread snaps or tangles in machine

Hi all! My machine has been giving me troubles for years & has recently been out of commission. I took it in to get serviced today and he gave me a very good tune up & fixed my machine’s issue of skipping stitches. I immediately started sewing again once I got it back home only for the top spool of thread to fray and snap down near the bobbin.

This happens about once every 3 minutes of sewing no matter what project I’m working on. This particular project is two pieces of cotton - nothing crazy. When this happens, it feels like my needle hits something and then when it comes back up the thread is broken or tangled. I’ve never had this issue on any other machine besides this one, and I bought this machine because it’s the make and model of the one I learned how to sew on.

Again, I just got my machine maintenanced. My tension is perfect, it’s well oiled, the feed dogs are running well. He took my machine apart fixed anything and everything he could find. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do? I’m feeling very discouraged and sad about this and appreciate any and all help. Thanks!
