Generator RPM too high

So I was fixing up a 4000 watt generator, turn out it was left on the side of the road due to one of the wire connecting the two sides of the windings on the rotor corroded. I repaired it and was trying to dial in the correct Hz rating under load but I noticed that my RPM monitor was reading about 7100 rpm which seems pretty high but I’m not too sure. I did change the oil and noticed that the oil was a bit sparkly, so obviously there was something going wrong internally, perhaps the high RPM needed to generated to correct power rating hurt the engine or maybe that was from sitting outside for so long, losing adequate lubrication, then finally starting back up caused some damage? Again, not too sure. Ultimately, I don’t want to destroy the machine more by running it at too high of an RPM. Any advice would be awesome since I can’t find too much about such a high RPM through my own googling. And to note, the generator is a Husky 4000 starting watt generator with a Briggs 1150 series engine.
