Hey folks, let's address mobile order delays 🙃
We are generally not allowed to turn off mobile ordering. Whether there is a 5-minute wait or a 30-minute wait, a lobby wall to wall with customers, a line around the building, and multiple call-outs. Doesn't matter. It's a policy not to turn it off, and by and large store managers and district managers enforce that.
That said, it's understandably frustrating when you get a "5-10 minute wait" when it's over 20. It's frustrating for us to know that we're pulling orders from 25-30 minutes ago and they're still coming in. Please refrain from taking it out on your friendly neighborhood baristas who DID show up to work, you CAN address it with the company at https://customerservice.starbucks.com/app/contact/ask/
Our system knows if we've pulled a drink tag yet. It would be fantastic if that "5-10 minutes" (if no crowd's ahead of you) assumption was changed to a live wait time, so that you're able to make an informed decision about whether or not you still want to stop at that particular Starbucks. Especially if you're on the road, chances are there is another store that might be out of your way but likely not 20-30 minutes out of your way.
If you happen to frequent a store that routinely or even sporadically has this issue? Please be aware we're going as fast as we can while maintaining the quality of our products. Perhaps use the wait time to nudge the company. As we have no control over who calls out, how many espresso machines are in the store, and what the mobile app tells you versus what's actually happening.
