Are Romulans thirsty for humans?

The Romulans are a tough nut to crack. I don't think any series really "got" them. My point is Sela was placed in charge of a Klingon coup and she was half human. Shannon was made a bloody Preator, and he was full human clone. In Picard the survivors of the nova seem cool with humans until they get abandoned. Even Geordi gets some closet love from that marooned guy. Every time they show up it's more like a psycho, jealous ex than the other enemies The Federation has. Is it because of The Vulcans? Or do the Romulans respect game? In DS9 The Romulans hate the Klingons but seem amenable to Ross and Sisko. Kirk bangs Nevesa. Jean-Luc even bangs one out of some old-young fetish. Why do Rumulans have such a creepy obsession with us?
