The Sopranos and 9/11

The Sopranos season 4 timeline does not make sense considering its place amongst the 9/11 era.

They mention in episode 4.1 that Meadow is not doing well because of the death of Jackie jr and she uses it as an excuse to not take a job or register for classes over the summer.

Now we know that Jackie Jr. died the winter before. If you remember, during the funeral it is set during the Super Bowl which from the background tv coverage it was the Ravens Super Bowl in January 2001. There is another news story about Trent Dilfer’s return to Tampa Bay where the Super Bowl took place

Also I will add that the episode takes place during warmer weather so my assumption is that it is summertime. I will also add the AJ just started school so he does not have a grade in Social studies. So figuring on or around September 1st as a date.

Carmela also adds that everything comes to an end and tells Tony to just watch the news.

Later in the same episode when Christopher kills the cop and Tony and Bobby Baccala are at the diner, he says that his mom went downhill since the World Trade Center. So there are two possibilities.

  1. Columbia University has an extremely easy registration process that allows Meadow to register late ( mind you she doesn’t register for classes until the next episode as well)

Or:

  1. September 11th takes place during the course of that one episode and they do not show any reactions to it other than Bobby Baccala mentioning it.

There could be that his mother has been going downhill since the 1993 WTC bombing but that is reaching.
