Text drop shadow?!

Am I dumb or is there no option for drop shadows *behind* text? For some reason, when I click "Text shadows" in the designer, the shadow is coming up in front of the text.

EDIT: I realized it's because i'm clipping a gradient background to the text. Bummer that I can't do both.
